The arrest was made after fans of both Manchester City and United reported the incident at the Etihad Stadium.

“During the Manchester derby [on Sunday] officers arrested a man on suspicion of tragedy chanting,” Greater Manchester Police said.

“Following reports made in the crowd, the man was promptly arrested,” Greater Manchester Police added.

Twenty-three people, including eight United players, died in the air disaster in 1958, which happened as their plane was trying to take off in snowy conditions in Munich.

City won the Premier League match 3-1 with two goals from Phil Foden and one from Erling Haaland after Marcus Rashford opened the scoring for United.
